About ASH
ASH stands for my initials - Alyssa S Herrera.
Alyssa S Herrera is a multidisciplinary artist and educator with 8+ years of professional experience in the fine art field.
ASH finds beauty in process - she works with mediums that are based in traditional craft, from fiber arts to ceramic, these techniques have a long and inspiring history for humankind - especially women.
She communicates themes of connection and disconnection, tension, beauty in the overlooked, identity and loss through these mediums. The textures and colors in her work are found through observed details of natural environments - from moss and lichen growing on a branch, to a decomposing tree or animal being brought back into the earth - the outdoors is her sanctuary and her work is an ode to the earth. ASH has developed an element of trust and partnership with each material, allowing the raw qualities of that material to dictate the final details in her work.
